DBT was initially developed to treat borderline personality disorder (BPD), but it has since been adapted for various other mental health conditions. These include depression, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance use disorders, eating disorders, and self-harming behaviors.

DBT differs from other therapies in its emphasis on acceptance and change. It teaches individuals to accept themselves and their emotions while also learning skills to change harmful behaviors. Additionally, DBT places a strong focus on the therapeutic relationship and validation of the individual’s experiences.

The timeframe for seeing improvement with treatment varies from person to person. Some individuals may experience relief from symptoms relatively quickly, while others may require more time and ongoing support.
